First Rehearsal - So Sing

So Sing - First Rehearsal

Human - Rag'N'Bone
(I'm only human
I'm only, I'm only
I'm only human, human)

Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this and see what's behind
Got no way to prove it so maybe I'm lied

But I'm only human after all, I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

Take a look in the mirror and what do you see
Do you see it clearer or are you deceived in what you believe

Cause I'm only human after all, you're only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above
I'm only human after all, I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me

Don't ask my opinion, don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness for making you cry, making you cry

Cause I'm only human after all, I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me, don't put the blame on me

Some people got the real problems
Some people out of luck
Some people think I can solve them
Lord heavens above
I'm only human after all, I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me
I'm only human I make mistakes
I'm only human that's all it takes to put the blame on me
Don't put the blame on me

'Cause I'm no prophet or messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human after all, I'm only human after all
Don't put the blame on me, don't put the blame on me
I'm only human I do what I can
I'm just a man, I do what I can
Don't put the blame on me
Don't put your blame on me

Tears Dry On Their Own - Amy Winehouse
All I can ever be to you
Is the darkness that we knew,
And this regret I've got accustomed to.
Once it was so right,
When we were at our high,
Waiting for you in the hotel at night.

I knew I hadn't met my match,
But every moment we could snatch,
I don't know why I got so attached.
It's my responsibility,
And you don't owe nothing to me,
But to walk away I have no capacity.

[Chorus:]
He walks away,
The sun goes down,
He takes the day
But I'm grown,
And in your way,
In this blue shade
My tears dry on their own.

I don't understand
Why do I stress a man
When there's so many bigger things at hand.
We coulda never had it all,
We had to hit a wall,
So this is inevitable withdrawal.
Even if I stop wanting you,
A perspective pushes through,
I'll be some next man's other woman soon.

I shouldn't play myself again,
I should just be my own best friend,
Not fuck myself in the head with stupid men.

[Chorus]

So we are history,
Your shadow covers me
The sky above,
A blaze,

[Chorus]

I wish I could say no regrets,
And no emotional debts,
'Cause as we kiss goodbye the sun sets

So we are history,
The shadow covers me,
The sky above,
A blaze that only lovers see,

He walks away,
The sun goes down,
He takes the day
But I'm grown,
And in your way,
My blue shade
My tears dry on their own.

He walks away,
The sun goes down,
He takes the day
But I'm grown,
And in your way,
My deep shade
My tears dry on their own.

He walks away,
The sun goes down,
He takes the day
But I'm grown,
And in your way,
My deep shade
My tears dry

Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye
Listen baby, ain't no mountain high,
Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough baby
If you need me call me no matter where you are,
No matter how far; don't worry baby
Just call my name; I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry,
Oh baby there ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Remember the day I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on, I made a vow,
I'll be there when you want me,
Some way, some how
Oh baby there ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Oh no darling
No wind, no rain
Or winters cold can stop me baby, na na baby
'Cause you are my goal
If you're ever in trouble;
I'll be there on the double
Just send for me, oh baby, ha
My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand,
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can
Don't you know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Don'tcha know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough,
Ain't no valley low enough,
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough

Keeping Your Head Up - Birdy
Times that I've seen you lose your way
You're not in c
ontrol and you won't be told
All I can do to keep you safe is hold you close
Hold you close til you can breathe on your own
Til you can breathe on your own

Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up
And I won't let you down

Everyone keeps a darker place
To lose control, you're not alone
And when you come looking for embrace
I know your soul; I'll be your home
Til you can breathe on your own
Til you can breathe on your own

Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up
And I won't let you down

You never think that you can fly
You'll always swim against the tide
Don't you know your pain is mine?
And I would die a thousand times to ease your mind
To ease your mind

Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Hold tight; you're slowly coming back to life
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up, darling
Let go of all your haunted dreams tonight
I'll be keeping your head up
I'll be keeping your head up
And I won't let you down

We are combining these four songs to create our piece which we will be performing for 'So Sing'.
Throughout each song, selected persons will be performing solo sections (for example, a verse per person) for those who want to push themselves.
We are using countermelodies throughout the performance; an example of this is when we are performing Amy Winehouse, the chorus is split and one half starts singing the chorus of Marvin Gaye whilst the other continues with the chorus os Amy Winehouse.

Variety Performance Review

Variety Performance Review

Hate It When You See Me Cry - Halestorm

After watching over my performance, I found that I had flawed my first few lines, even though I had the lyrics written in front of me on a stand. Perhaps, in my next performance, I should memorise my lines weeks before the performance so that i am confident with them.

During my performance, I didn't use my space well, I tended to stand in one place whilst I sang. Maybe, in my next performance, I will use my space a lot more rather than standing in one place for the entirety of the song.

'Our House' Audition Preparation

In this audition process, I would like to demonstrate that I can maintain my focus on line-learning and ensemble rehearsing to ensure that the performance is cleanly executed. I am going to concentrate on creating a character that is realistic throughout the performances to show that I understand the character. As well as this, I will rehearse in a pair or a group so that we can help each other with characterisation and stage positioning. When I am preparing songs, I will run it through with the music and the lyrics whilst another member of my class is watching the performance to give me feedback on my vocal approach and performance skills through the piece.

Character Preparation
Reecy, Joe, Lewis - I am going to prepare for the characters of Reecy, Joe and Lewis by performing in front of my peers and getting feedback on my performance. I am also going to research my character and scene so that I have the context behind them. I will also do a hot-seating session with my peers for each character that I can expand my understand of the character and create a more realistic characterisation.

Dance Show Performance

Dance Show Performance

What character/s did you play? What themes were you showing?
The theme of our piece was gangs and violence, gestures and identity. Our piece also had a Indian influence. We wanted to create an atmosphere of tension and violence throughout the piece.

What movements did you perform to show your character?
We used very sharp movement and gestures to portray the idea of violence, and we contrasted this with slow gentle movements. We used each other to present the violence of gangs by having duet fight scenes and group intimidations which helped to create the atmosphere needed to portray our themes.

What was your contribution to creating movement for the show, did you create movement for certain scenes?
We created the fight duet and solo sections; we were given a group of set moves which we had to incorporate into each section, we then built on top of these movements to create each section. These movements helped to create a tension atmosphere by repeating movements in each pair and group. When Raven pushed me down to the ground; we wanted the atmosphere to be tense, creating this through gang violence and the fighting action.

How did you use your physical skills throughout the show? (How you did things)
In each sharp gesture I used my strength to create strong movements which help create the violent angry atmosphere. I made each slow gesture flow and controlled to create contrast through the change in dynamics which create enough contrast between the sections that clearly separate the violent sections.

What interpretative skills did you use to communicate the theme/your character?
We used several Indian hand gestures to show the influence of Indian dance on our piece; we also used other gestures to show the violence and tension between characters throughout the piece to create a violent atmosphere. Throughout our piece, I maintained a hard facial expression to create tension and characterisation. I had good projection, especially at the beginning of the piece when Jennah, Megan, Fran and myself are striding to the front, we stand tall and hold our heads high to convey the idea of power and control over ourselves and others.

What were your strengths and weakness, in terms of your movement?
I remembered the piece in individual sections and as a whole piece of movement. I feel that I should have bought my legs higher in the piece (7.05 in the video) when we are performing one of the duets throughout the piece because I felt that it would help create a tense atmosphere whilst also showing the idea of gangs and violence.

What do you need to improve in terms of your movement, and why?
I need to keep my arms straight when they are extended in front of me at the beginning of the piece (cannon movement), this would help to create characterisation of a gang member through the strong movement create a violent and tense atmosphere.
